                The use of green walnut in folk medicine

In this article, we would like to talk about the countless benefits of walnuts – from medicinal to culinary. Read on to learn how walnuts have been traditionally used in folk medicine and country kitchens. We will also share several recipes, including walnut jam and wine.

WARNING: Green walnuts are known as strong allergens and should be avoided by people prone to allergies.

PLEASE CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE USE.

Other counterindications include individual intolerance, gastritis, stomach ulcers, thrombosis, neurodermatitis, psoriasis, age under 12 years, pregnancy, and lactation.

Medicinal use

Traditional healers use green walnuts, both fresh and prepared into various medicines.

A paste made from the ground green fruit can be applied to poorly healing wounds; it can also be used to treat trophic ulcers. People suffering from dandruff or seborrheic dermatitis report relief from rubbing it into their scalp – the same use also serves to dye gray hair. Wrapped in gauze, ground nuts and leaves can be applied to help alleviate the symptoms of tuberculosis and other lung diseases. Unfortunately, fresh fruits have a very limited shelf life, so they are most often used in various products and preparations.

What can be made from green walnuts:

-teas and water- or milk-based decoctions;

– infusions in water or honey;

– alcohol tinctures;

– extracts and cordials;

– fresh juice, boiled with sugar or honey;

– green walnut with honey;

-powder; and

-oil
